The Vikings Way…

I recently watched Vikings, the TV series. The first TV series I’ve watched with total focus and serenity in my mind. The story revolves not around a Viking but around a true leader who believes in himself and takes responsibility for his people which is something so rare in today’s context.

Ragnar, the leader, always blames himself at every defeat and praises the crew in every victory. That sparked me sublimely. This kindled me to be retrospective towards my own life. As the homily says “Great Powers come with Great Responsibilities”. He who takes the responsibility will always be the natural leader.

I was intrigued by the fact that we don’t need a title to be a little responsible. If I try to be responsible towards my family, the family will find me important. If I’m responsible with my friends, I’ll be well listened to by them. The natural rules of power are so simple to understand yet the leaders who are titled seem to derelict and forget them all.

Nevertheless, we all are endowed with the breadth and individually immaculate minds. That’s all enough to lead ourselves. That’s all enough for us to be self-responsible and to be a responsible person at least to someone.

The recent catastrophes we have experienced on the land of Sri Lanka were not unprecedented most of the time. We must accept that we are so asinine as a society when it comes to making important decisions as a whole. We have been docile and easily induced by the macro environment making our crackpots further. We forget things so quickly.

Our Karma is, we see everything is bad but we don’t try to make things right. I’m not so eloquent at saying this social stuff but I feel things around me and in the country are not right.

Anyway, take this away. Doesn’t matter if you don’t understand me.

  1. Sri Lanka is not it’s land but its people. If you can settle in another better country with your family or some of your intimates, that’s also Sri Lanka.
  2. If you are privileged to migrate after A/Ls, don’t think twice. Just go, have good education and learn from the great civilizations and cultures.
  3. If you are an undergraduate, aim for a 1st class or at least to a 2nd class upper. So that you can either get a scholarship to study abroad. Your class matters a lot. Don’t let the poor graded seniors hypnotize you to jump into a quicksand of temporary pleasure.
  4. If you have just graduated, save as much as possible because you will need a huge amount of money in future. You will understand how hard it would be for your parents to give you the luxuries you indulge in.
  5. If you are working, start thinking about having a decent and a free life without fights towards basic needs losing the inner satisfaction. Plan so well. Look forward multiple sources of income and passive income.
  6. Always remember, money is needed but that doesn’t make you free either. Financial freedom is freedom as long as you encircle civilized people with integrity.
  7. The prolific knowledge wins. The quick surges of money won’t make you a winner and a successful person. Always learn. Educate yourself. Your destiny is not yet unveiled. (I’ll tell the story of beach boys in Mirissa, Sri Lanka later)
  8. Be responsible for yourself and for others as well.
  9. Finally, I don’t mind what others think of me but I always think young people are watching us Adults. Adulthood has no age. A 6 years old boy is an adult to a toddler. Think before acting. Young people are watching
