What I want from you in 2022…

There are plenty of ways to learn. One on one sessions, online learning, reading and the list goes on. Nevertheless, we can classify all these into two main buckets. Learning from history and confronting new dragons. Yeah. That dragon part is the correct way to elaborate it. Be it a book or any readily available resource, it’s past. It’s an experience which someone has been acquainted with in the past. Research depicts someone else’s expedition.

On the other hand, individuals like you and I can step out, be a bit iconoclastic and find new knowledge on our own through our own pursuits. But this way is the hard way. It insists on temerity, resilience and delayed gratification in a greater proximity. That’s why we all rely and are comfortable trekking through history.

We need to depend on both of these to survive and thrive in our lives and reach the zenith of our own personal legacies. We have to muster courage when it’s vital and have to sneak peek into the past when it’s necessary.

When I was studying HRM in Sri Lanka, my favorite lecturer, one of the luminaries I’ve met during my earth walk, quoted that ‘Stupid people learn from their mistakes and intelligent people learn from other’s mistakes’ and it sank into the depths of mind.

Being a people person and having a frank interest towards people and their individualities, I became open towards what others have to teach me. (Let’s go on a date and I’ll be on my all ears with compassion).

When I was back in Sri Lanka, I had the habit of having conversations with Taxi drivers (Tuk-Tuk drivers to be exact) without judging (I’m already done with judging people) until I reached the destination. It’s amazing how small talks can be turned into meaningful life stories. Deep conversations reveal deep experiences, chasms and desires and that’s why I am enamored by humans. I like the way people add emotions to their stories. It binds them into their story connecting me to their souls and I love that. Ultimately I learn from others.

But what compelled me to write this whole thing is a fact I need to highlight and spotlight for 2022. Don’t be a victim of cyber space if you are lucky enough to live in the real world. Be present and aware. If it’s too boring and dull to be with your date or the friends, just tell them that and go on your way. It’s really attractive when someone stands for themselves. I go out only with friends who matter to me and I try to give them undivided attention to the fullest and yet trying my best to improve there.

Having learned computer science, I’m educated enough to understand how software algorithms and user oriented designs work. The virtual world is more captivating (yet unreal) than the real world. It’s always your decision to pick the side; fabricated fallacy or the reality. Pay attention to people. Because everyone has a story to tell you. A story which will help you to build your life. A story which helps you to understand yourself.

Importantly in 2022, do everything you want to do and be the one you want to be. Be wild, be free. Just live. In the real world. I’ll catch up with you if I get a chance.
